The news, first reported by Broker Daily and sister brand The Adviser, confirmed White would step down after 23 years at the helm of the Finance Brokers Association of Australia (FBAA).
Under White’s leadership, the FBAA grew from a small group into a major industry body.
Clinch chief executive officer James Green described White as a “true gentleman and a pioneer of our industry”.
“He put the FBAA on the map and spent more time in Canberra lobbying government for the broker industry than anyone else,” Green added.
“He will be sorely missed. I am personally extremely grateful for his mentoring and friendship.”
Mario Stepancic, mortgage broker for Think Lending, said White’s impact left an “indelible mark”.
He said: “For decades you’ve championed the interests of brokers with unwavering integrity and conviction, shaping the profession and elevating its standing with regulators, government and the broader community.
“Your vision has helped strengthen industry representation, empowered countless brokers and advanced initiatives from industry best practice standards to mental health advocacy and global collaboration all while maintaining a deep commitment to service and professionalism.”
Jason McLachlan, business development manager at Victorian Mortgage Group, said: “Amazing leadership and a stellar career. Thank you for what you have done for brokers and the wider industry. Very big shoes to fill.”
Andy Leader, mortgage underwriter for Resimac, said the mortgage industry would be losing “one of its greatest advocates”.
He continued: “Peter has been unwavering in his support for the industry, reform, fair remuneration, and education. The broker channel would not be as fierce and as integral to the mortgage system without him. Thank you, Peter, for backing brokers.”
Aggregation group Finsure said: “We’d like to express our sincere appreciation for your unwavering advocacy and commitment to our industry during your time at FBAA.
“We deeply value the dedication and passion you’ve brought to the mortgage broking community, including our own Finsure broker network.
“We wish you all the very best in your next chapter and look forward to seeing the continued impact you’ll make in the industry.”
Reacting to The Adviser’s article, White himself said: “So grateful for the past 23 years, to the FBAA board, FBAA members, and the industry at large.
“Looking forward to leaning into the next journey … and more riding.”
Commenting on Broker Daily’s website, Phil said: “It's not easy to be at the top of the tree and I absolutely respect all that Peter brought to the FBAA, and the many achievements in helping the broker industry.
“Riding the wave of the royal commission, legislative changes, COVID and continued growth of FBAA was no easy task at the helm, during these turbulent times. Thank you Peter.”
Steve Sampson wrote: “Good on you Peter, a great legacy that you have left.”
