Shift bolsters leadership team with GM appointment

The new GM will oversee credit and customer experience for the lender’s corporate business division.

Shift has announced the appointment of Genevieve Walker as the SME lender’s new general manager, corporate business division, a role that will see her help shape the lending experience for larger and more established SMEs with “sophisticated finance requirements”.

Walker, who commenced in the newly created role last Thursday (13 August), joins Shift from Macquarie Group, where she spent more than 10 years in a range of senior lending and product leadership roles including director, product management, business bank lending.

In her new role, Walker will oversee credit and customer experience for the Shift’s corporate business division.

She will also work closely with Andrew Wagg, who was recently promoted to director, broker distribution and is responsible for leading Shift’s broker engagement.

The latest hire also follows the appointment of Natasha Brown as Shift’s new general manager, small business division, earlier this year.

Speaking of the appointments, Shift CEO Jamie Osborn said the lender’s approach reflects the broader needs of Australian businesses and the brokers who serve them.

“The diversity of the businesses our brokers work with has grown significantly in recent years. That’s why we’re continuing to invest in the people, technology and expertise needed to deliver the right experience for businesses at every stage,” Osborn said.

“We welcome Genevieve to Shift and congratulate Andrew and Natasha on their expanded roles. Together, their expertise across broker distribution, customer experience and business lending will help ensure brokers and their clients are well positioned to focus on long-term growth.”

Meanwhile, Walker said she was eager to get started in the new role.

“What sets Shift apart is its ability to combine a relationship focus with its data and credit modelling capability,” Walker said.

“I’ve followed Shift’s growth with interest for some time, and what drew me here is the opportunity to help build a better way to serve corporate and established businesses.”

Continued evolution

This latest appointment marks the continuation of a busy period for the SME lender.

Late last year, Shift announced a new asset import feature to its equipment line product to help SME clients fund the import of goods and services at the end of last year.

At the time, Wagg said that the digital experience accelerated what is traditionally a slow and complex finance process and required minimal documentation and checks.

“Part of the appeal is that our digital approach cuts through cumbersome processes and administration that can be typically associated with financing overseas purchases, which brokers tell us time and time again are pain points for them and their clients,” he said.
