Macquarie leads lenders across key broker metrics

Macquarie Bank has come out on top among the lenders for broker usage, as well as having the quickest turnaround times and best overall broker experience.

That’s according to Agile Market Intelligence’s latest Broker Pulse: Residential Lending report, which surveyed 353 residential mortgage brokers about their experiences with lenders throughout July 2026.

The bank, which regularly enjoys top rankings across Broker Pulse’s metrics, received applications from 48 per cent of broker respondents in July 2026.

The next most frequently used were Australia New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) at 44 per cent, the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) at 35 per cent, and Westpac at 29 per cent.

 
 

Among non-major banks, Bankwest received applications from 20 per cent of broker respondents and ING from 19 per cent.

Firstmac was the most-used non-bank lender at 8 per cent, followed by Pepper Money and Liberty Financial at 7 per cent each.

Macquarie leads turnaround times and broker experience

Macquarie also recorded the shortest average turnaround among large ADIs, at 1.7 business days.

Bankwest followed with an average turnaround of 2.9 business days, while CBA was the fastest among the major banks at 3.7 business days.

Among small ADIs, Ubank recorded the shortest average turnaround at 2.7 business days, followed by P&N Bank at 2.8 days and MyState at 3.3 days.

People’s First Bank, which has also been overhauling its technology systems, recorded the longest average turnaround in the small ADI group, at 11.6 business days.

Among non-ADIs, Connective Home Loans recorded the shortest average turnaround at 3.4 business days, followed by RedZed at 4.3 days, while La Trobe Financial saw blowouts of 14 days.

Macquarie also recorded the highest overall broker-experience rating among large ADIs, at 96 per cent.

Bankwest followed at 91 per cent, while ING recorded 89 per cent. Westpac and NAB both recorded 88 per cent.

P&N Bank led the small ADIs for broker experience, also recording a 96 per cent satisfaction rating.

Great Southern Bank followed at 91 per cent, while HSBC and MyState both recorded 90 per cent.

Among non-ADIs, AFG Home Loans recorded the highest overall broker-experience rating at 85 per cent, followed by Connective Home Loans at 84 per cent and Bluestone Home Loans at 81 per cent.

Client circumstances drive lender choice

Client circumstances remained the leading reason brokers recommended major banks and non-bank lenders, while product pricing was the main factor for non-major banks.

Among brokers recommending major banks, 72 per cent cited client circumstances, down 1 percentage point from June. Product pricing was the second-most cited reason at 39 per cent.

Client circumstances were cited by 87 per cent of brokers recommending non-bank lenders, up 5 percentage points from the previous month. Product pricing was cited by 13 per cent.

For non-major banks, product pricing was the leading reason for recommendations, cited by 64 per cent of relevant respondents, up 2 percentage points.

Client circumstances ranked second at 52 per cent, down 3 percentage points.

BDM and credit teams

The survey also measured broker experiences with business development managers and credit assessors.

Bendigo Bank recorded a 100 per cent BDM experience rating among commonly used ADIs, followed by Bankwest at 95 per cent and Macquarie at 94 per cent.

Among less commonly used ADIs, Auswide Bank, HSBC, P&N Bank, and Ubank each recorded a 100 per cent BDM experience rating.

Macquarie led credit-assessor experience among commonly used ADIs at 95 per cent, followed by Bankwest at 91 per cent. Westpac and ME Bank both recorded 88 per cent.

Among less commonly used ADIs, Auswide Bank, Beyond Bank, HSBC, and P&N Bank each recorded a 100 per cent credit-assessor experience rating.

AFG Home Loans and Connective Home Loans both recorded a 100 per cent rating among commonly used non-ADIs, followed by La Trobe Financial at 92 per cent.
