Major bank makes key appointment

One of the big four banks has appointed a distinguished former public servant to its board, effective immediately.

ANZ chairman David Gonski announced that Jane Halton has joined the bank’s board.

Ms Halton was previously the secretary of the Department of Finance, responsible for supporting the delivery of the federal government’s budget and the management of its non-defence domestic property portfolio.

She has also served as the secretary of the Department of Health, secretary for the Department of Health and Ageing and executive coordinator (deputy secretary) of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

“I am delighted to have Jane join the ANZ board. Her experience in finance, insurance, risk management, information technology, human resources, health and ageing and public policy, and her international experience will be of significant benefit to the board,” Mr Gonski said.

Ms Halton will stand for election as a director at ANZ’s annual general meeting on 16 December.
