Mr Spector will be responsible for acquiring new business opportunities, developing disruptive technologies and pursuing capital ventures to enhance ANZ’s customer experience.
Head of digital at ANZ Maile Carnegie, who was appointed earlier this year, believes that the experienced recruit will contribute to the bank’s efforts to expand its digital platform.
“Ron will lead a group-wide function to accelerate our efforts to make our customers’ lives simpler and find new, innovative opportunities to build a world-class digital bank,” Ms Carnegie said.
“We’re confident this focus will open new markets for ANZ, while also improving the products and services we provide our customers.”
Speaking to the media, the new appointee revealed how his role will help the bank achieve its innovation ambitions.
Mr Spector said: “We’ll be focusing on a lot of rapid value creation outside the core platform, where we can grow new businesses on the digital front but drive a lot of value back into the bank through innovation that can be adopted internally.
“But these things will take a little time.”
He has 27 years’ worth of experience as an adviser to the financial services industry.
Based in San Francisco, the co-founder of Circini Innovation worked with Fortune 1000 companies and international venture funds, providing enterprise innovation and investment advice.
Mr Spector has also held positions as CEO of Conferserv Inc, senior vice-president of MediaZone, founding partner of Macquarie Technology Ventures and US head of technology investment banking at Macquarie Group.
The new managing director will assume his position in January and will be based in Sydney.
