Rodney ‘Rocket’ Cottam recently completed a gruelling endurance marathon for charity: running 560 kilometres in a week.

The regional sales manager at Resimac covered 80 kilometres each day for seven days in a bid to raise money for Invictus Australia.

Cottam had a target of $56,000 raised for the organisation, a charity that provides ongoing support for veterans and their families. Donations continue to flood in as people show their support for Rocket’s incredible achievement.

“Running has transformed my life, allowing me to overcome obstacles and inspire others. This challenge is about more than just physical limits; it’s about supporting those who have fought for our country and continue to fight their own battles,” Cottam said.

The run began in Western NSW and concluded in Sydney’s CBD, with plenty of memorable stops along the way including Mount Panorama. Cottam set off on 26 October, arriving to celebrate his achievement at Resimac’s office in Sydney on 1 November.

Cottam said: “While I was doing it tough and having to dig deep for seven days to complete the 560 kilometres, too many of our veterans are having to do it tough every day, due to ongoing physical and mental injuries. They need our help.”

This journey was one sparked through Cottam’s own challenges, as a motor vehicle incident in 2004 resulted in multiple injuries, including a spinal injury that led to brachial plexus palsy. This caused permanent paralysis of Cottam’s left arm.

Cottam has a background in the military and, despite the sustained injuries, he found a love for running and runs 200 kilometres each week through sheer resilience.

Cottam’s ‘Run Rocket Run’ challenge was supported by various partners: Resimac, Optus, Momentum Media, Parramatta Jaguar Land Rover, Wise Physiotherapy, and Whiskey & Friends.
