Non-major inducted into Hall of Fame

A well-known regional bank lender has joined an illustrious collection of business identities, as it is inducted into the Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame.

One of just six organisations on the night, Suncorp Group was welcomed to the Hall of Fame by the Governor of Queensland, The Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, at a gala dinner in Brisbane.

Suncorp CEO and managing director Michael Cameron said the bank this year celebrates 100 years of proudly serving Queenslanders.

“I’m delighted we can mark this great honour alongside such an important milestone in our history,” he added.

“Over the past century, Suncorp has grown to become Queensland’s largest company and one of the largest financial services providers in Australia and New Zealand,” Mr Cameron said.

Calling its Queensland heritage ‘critical’, he said the bank is thrilled to join the ranks of some of the most influential businesses in Queensland, and Australia.

Professor Peter Little, QUT deputy vice-chancellor (corporate programs and partnerships), who is on the Hall of Fame governing committee, said Suncorp has demonstrated the innovation, heart and resilience that are typical Queensland traits.

Suncorp’s extraordinary story of enterprise has "helped shape the development of this great state", Prof Little said, and it will "forever be valued and remembered".

The Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame is a joint initiative between the QUT Business School, State Library of Queensland and Queensland Library Foundation.

The award is now in its eighth year.
