Bank announces executive reshuffle

A non-major bank has announced the appointment of its inaugural chief technology officer and a former Commonwealth Bank executive as its new chief financial officer.

Customer-owned lender Gateway Bank has announced the promotion of its senior manager of business systems Peter Buzek into the newly created role of chief technology officer (CTO) and has appointment Debra Landgrebe as its new chief financial officer (CFO).

According to the bank, in his new role as CTO, Mr Buzek will serve as Gateway’s chief technology architect, driving the alignment of Gateway’s system architecture with wider business goals, focusing on improving the customer experience for members.

Gateway Bank CEO Paul Thomas said the role was created in response to the need for an increased focus on technology developments and continuous innovation.

“Peter’s appointment reflects our growing commitment to providing better services for our members, and I’m looking forward to seeing the transformation that he will be making in his new role,” Mr Thomas said.

Commenting on his appointment as CTO, Mr Buzek said: “Our size allows us to establish ourselves as fast responders to new trends. As our own internal expertise grows, we will take advantage of open innovation and co-creation to put us on the leading edge of customer experience. I am excited to be heading these efforts.”

Ms Landgrebe, who will be joining the mutual bank as CFO at the end of January, will be replacing Peter Gilmore, who steps down after 12 years of service to the bank.

The newly appointed CFO joins the customer-owned bank from the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), where she most recently served as executive manager, home buying finance.

Ms Landgrebe has served 19 years in the accountancy industry, across financial and professional services organisations in four countries, Australia, South Africa, The Netherlands and the United States.

The Gateway CEO welcomed Ms Landgrebe to the bank.

“Debra’s experience will be of immense value to the team as we take the next steps towards an evolving Gateway Bank,” Mr Thomas said.

Ms Landgrebe added: “I’m looking forward to joining the team at Gateway. I see a bright future and exciting times ahead for the small player and am keen to be a part of the evolution over the next few years.”

Mr Thomas also thanked outgoing CFO Peter Gilmore for his contribution to Gateway.

“Peter has been a key player in helping Gateway to weather the storms of the housing market over the past few years.

“His extensive financial knowledge and strong analytical skills will leave us with strong foundations moving into the future.”
