With a federal election expecting to take place before the end of May 2022 – and the outcomes of this election potentially having the ability to rapidly and significantly impact the course and trajectory of the mortgage and finance industry – market research firm Momentum Intelligence has launched an industry-wide poll to understand the perceptions, opinions and priorities of the industry ahead of the federal election.
The poll aims to measure and voice the sentiments and concerns of mortgage and finance industry participants.
Many in the industry have also started issuing calls for what they’d like the government to target – whether it be housing affordability and more home-buying guarantees, capital gains tax and negative gearing, or the extension of comprehensive credit reporting, among other issues.
The mortgage broking industry will also be keeping a close eye on the 2022 federal election, given the upcoming review of broker remuneration.
While the current Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said in 2019 that the government would consider the impacts of removing trail in a broker remuneration review in 2022 (rather than abolishing it as originally announced), Labor’s position in 2019 backed a fixed fee for upfront commissions (at 1.1 per cent) and a ban on trail commissions for new loans.
Momentum Intelligence’s head of strategy Michael Johnson commented: “This poll is an opportunity to explore industry-specific issues and insights as a vehicle to bring these issues to light ahead of the election.
“It’s an opportunity for this industry to voice what is important to them at a professional and personal level so that their ideas can be amplified and heard by those in Canberra.”
The poll is open to all mortgage and finance industry professionals, including brokers, lenders and service providers.
The results of the anonymous survey will be aggregated and reported back to the industry via Mortgage Business.
The poll has 10 questions and will take no longer than five minutes to complete.
In return for participants’ time, Momentum Intelligence is offering a $500 gift voucher to one randomly selected participant who provides their details to enter the optional prize draw.

The survey closes on 15 December 2021.
