HSBC names Australia’s global banking head

Hamish Kelly will step into the role and will be responsible for leading the coverage of large corporate, multinational, financial and government clients.

Mr Kelly succeeds Chris Russell, who has relocated to Auckland to become HSBC’s chief executive for New Zealand.

Tony Cripps, HSBC’s chief executive for Australia, said that under Mr Kelly’s leadership, “global banking will play an increasingly pivotal role in connecting the bank’s clients to the cross-border business and investment opportunities that are rising from the continued globalisation of the Australian economy”.

HSBC’s regional head of credit and lending for the Asia-Pacific region, David Morton, said Mr Kelly “will provide strong on-the-ground leadership, which will be critical in enhancing our proposition to clients”.
