ANZ appoints chief economist

ANZ Bank has named Richard Yetsenga as its new chief economist, a role he has been acting in since March 2016.

Mr Yetsenga joined ANZ in 2011 and prior to his promotion he was the bank’s head of financial markets research. ANZ managing director of markets Shayne Collins said Mr Yetsenga’s “vast economics experience” made him “ideally qualified” for the role.

“Since taking on the acting role of Chief Economist, he has made a strong contribution to the team through his values-led leadership, as well as having a commercial impact on the bank’s broader business,” he said.

Mr Yetsenga has previously held senior economic research roles with a number of public and private sector organisations, including HSBC, Deutsche Bank, and the Australian government.

The chief economist is responsible for leading ANZ’s research team, as well as providing economic analysis on a range of different markets.

Mr Yetsenga will also co-ordinate ANZ’s economic and financial market research across the Asian, New Zealand, European and American regions.
