ANZ appoints chief risk officer

ANZ has appointed Kevin Corbally as its new chief risk officer, replacing the retiring Nigel Williams.

Kevin Corbally has been promoted to chief risk officer of ANZ after eight years at the bank that saw him rise to the position of group general manager for internal audit.

Mr Corbally will replace Nigel Williams, whose retirement was announced by ANZ in December. Mr Williams is retiring to “pursue a career as a non-executive director”, according to a statement by the bank.

Before his time at ANZ, Mr Corbally was managing director and head of corporate and commercial banking at Citigroup Australia and New Zealand.

Commenting on the appointment, ANZ chief executive Shayne Elliott said: “Managing risk appropriately is a critical function of all high-performing banks, and I’m pleased to be able to appoint a strong leader with demonstrated values and diverse experience at a time the industry is facing increasing reputational and regulatory issues.”

Mr Corbally will begin his new role on 19 March 2018 and will be based in Melbourne.
