ANZ unveils new institutional bank leadership

The major bank has appointed five senior appointments to its institutional bank as it works to “strengthen the business” and deliver greater customer support.

Five new appointments have been named to Australia and New Zealand Banking Group’s (ANZ) institutional leadership, according to a statement by the major bank.  

Included in the announcement is Michael Rose, who has been named as the inaugural head of sales, institutional Australia – a Brisbane-based position intended to “drive deeper relationships and business growth”. 

According to ANZ, Mr Rose has been with the bank for 40 years, with his most recent appointment being head of corporate banking, institutional Australia.

Simone Tilley, who was previously ANZ’s head of retail broker distribution for Australia retail and commercial, will be Mr Rose’s successor for his previous role, effective from today (8 November).

Ms Tilley’s appointment was first announced last month and is expected to be based in Melbourne. 

Both Mr Rose and Ms Riley will be reporting to ANZ’s managing director – institutional Australia Tammy Medard.  

Paul Richards, the major bank’s previous head of structured export finance and renewables, has also been named the next head of resources, energy and infrastructure. 

Mr Richards replaces Paul Orton, who was appointed to the role of group general manager, internal audit in June.

According to ANZ, Mr Richards and Mr Rose are currently “transitioning into their new roles”. 

Michelle Sichlau has also been included in this new leadership team, being appointed to the newly created role of head of business development for corporate finance – a role said to focus on “continued development and execution of our new growth opportunities”.

Ms Sichlau is expected to join ANZ in December from Plenary Group, where she is an executive director. 

According to ANZ, Ms Sichlau has “more than 15 years of experience in originating, structuring, negotiating, executing and managing structured finance transactions and assets across a number of industry sectors”. 

Ms Sichlau, alongside Mr Richards, will be based in Sydney and will be reporting to ANZ’s managing director, corporate finance Christina Tonkin. 

Michael Peric will also be an external addition to join ANZ’s institutional leadership, being named global head of balance sheet trading – a Sydney-based role he commenced this month.  

Mr Peric was previously the general manager – financial markets and trade finance at Bank of Queensland and, as per ANZ, has “more than 25 years of experience in financial markets, leading trading, sales, treasury, product and risk teams in Australia and New Zealand”. 

Speaking of the appointments, group executive institutional Mark Whelan said: “We’re pleased to have such strong internal and external talent within our team, bringing deep skills and experience to help support our customers at this critical time for the economy.”
