The Bank of Sydney has welcomed Sam Tomaras as the head of home lending and broker distribution.
Mr Tomaras was most recently the national head of partnerships and referrers at the Westpac Group (a position he held for the last three years) and worked in a number of senior roles at St.George over a period of 11 years (including as head of retail banking and home lending NSW). He was the project manager for wholesale home loans at GE Money prior to that and has also worked in business development roles with both GE Money & HSBC.
In the newly created position at Bank of Sydney, in which he started on Monday (12 February), Mr Tomaras will be responsible for driving the bank’s growth, pulling on his experience in lending acquisition and growing businesses through partnerships.
Speaking of the new appointment, the Bank of Sydney’s chief retail banking officer, Huw Bough, said Mr Tomaras is a strong leader in banking with deep understanding in residential lending and has a “proven track record of success” in developing and driving new acquisition strategies.
Mr Bough said: “I am truly delighted to welcome someone of Sam’s calibre to Bank of Sydney … With Sam’s extensive experience in driving new lending acquisition, and growing businesses through partnerships, I am certain he will deliver great outcomes for our customers and broker partners in support of our growth strategy.
Mr Tomaras stated: “I am looking forward to working with the team, customers and brokers to develop strong relationships, create positive experiences and pleasing outcomes for all.”
The new head of home lending and broker distribution position is the latest in a raft of senior appointments at the Bank of Sydney, as it continues its transformation.
Earlier this week, the bank welcomed a new chief risk officer, in the form of Kieran McKenna.
In May 2023, the bank appointed Melos Sulicich as chief executive officer and in October 2023, it welcomed Huw Bough as its new chief retail banking officer.
Fawaz Sankari, who was Bank of Sydney’s chief banking officer, moved to head up the commercial business as chief business banking officer.
