Vishnu Mohan will officially retire at the end of April after seven years at ANZ where he led the bank’s businesses across 12 countries in the Pacific region, as well as being ANZ Fiji’s chief executive. Mr Mohan was also previously ANZ’s chief executive for Papua New Guinea and the Northwest Pacific region.
With ANZ’s Papua New Guinea business now reporting to ANZ Australia and the rest of the Pacific business to ANZ New Zealand, Mr Mohan has developed a new business strategy for the Pacific region in recent weeks.
He said it was time for him to pass on the mantle now that his task was completed.
“I’ve loved every minute of leading ANZ Pacific, but it’s now time to do something else with my life and spend more time with my family,” Mr Mohan said.
“Every day we help Pacific people get ahead in their lives, whether it’s starting up a business, trading with the world, saving for a home or retiring in comfort. ANZ staff across the Pacific make a huge difference to the lives of ordinary people and I’m really proud of that.”
ANZ New Zealand chief executive David Hisco paid tribute to Mr Mohan.
“Vishnu has steadfastly helped build ANZ Pacific into the strong business that it is today,” Mr Hisco said.
“In particular, Vishnu passionately and diligently helped build ANZ’s significant presence in Papua New Guinea and he’s been a great advocate for the development of Pacific nationals. We’ll always be grateful to him for that.”
Mr Hisco said a key part of Mr Mohan’s new business strategy was simplifying the business for customers, simplifying reporting lines across ANZ Pacific and streamlining processes for customer-facing staff.
“These simplifications are being done to create more distinct, country-focused service models based on improving our customer service,” he said.
“We will continue to look for collaboration amongst country heads across the region, create more promotional opportunities for locals and reduce bureaucracy wherever possible.”
Mr Hisco said ANZ Pacific’s current head of commercial, Saud Abdul Minam, will become the bank’s acting CEO for Fiji, and a formal process for filling Mr Mohan’s role would commence in due course.
