Suncorp announces new leadership team appointments

One of Australia’s leading challenger banks has made three new appointments to its leadership team.

Announcing the appointments this week, Suncorp CEO and managing director Michael Cameron said that David Carter, former chief financial officer for the group’s Banking and Wealth business, has been made CEO of Banking and Wealth, and acting chief risk and legal officer Fiona Thompson is to formally take on the position of chief risk officer.

Kate Olgers, currently executive general manager for legal at Commonwealth Bank’s Wealth Management and Technology divisions, is to become Suncorp’s new chief legal officer.

Mr Cameron said that the choice to appoint two internal candidates to the leadership team was reflective of “the strength and quality of the Suncorp team”, but added that the industry’s “changing environment" required separate chief risk officer and chief legal officer roles.

He concluded, “These appointments bring a wealth of expertise and greater diversity to the executive team. I’m looking forward to the contribution they will make to the organisation.”

Mr Carter will take over the CEO Banking and Wealth role on 26 September 2016, and Ms Thompson will continue to act in the position of chief risk and legal officer until 17 October 2016, at which time she will become chief risk officer. Ms Olgers will take up her appointment as chief legal officer at the same time.
